Therapy Groups
- DBT groups provide skills training in four modules: core mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. These skills are designed to help participants regulate their emotions without depending on eating disorder behaviors. Research conducted both in this clinic and elsewhere suggests that DBT is effective in helping clients decrease eating disorder symptoms.

- The process group is a time for the group to address the issues that arise in the life of the EDCASA community. Clients are encouraged to exercise the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy interpersonal relationship skills they are developing.

- The Binge Eating Disorder Group is a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills training group targeted specifically to reduce binge eating.

- The Bariatric Surgery group is a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills training group targeted to address those who have had bariatric surgery yet still struggle with disordered eating. The group is geared to decrease the eating disorder symptoms.

- Often we find ourselves unaware of anything outside the realm of ideas and thoughts. The physical, emotional, and spiritual seem out of focus. The movement group aims to reunite all of these aspects of the self through Nia, an expressive movement form composed of three different kinds of martial arts, dance arts, and healing arts. These nine movement forms work towards the development of self and body awareness, mindfulness, voice, and the masculine and feminine elements of the self. Individuals who are prohibited from participating due to medical instability are invited to practice mindfulness or stretch during this time. - Each day begins with an assessment of challenges faced the day before, a look at homework assigned and the setting of specific goals for the day ahead.

- The goal of this group is to encourage clients to explore and grow in their own spirituality and faith. No pressure is placed on any client to ascribe to a set pattern of beliefs. Instead, the group provides a venue for clients to further their own spiritual journey and to explore their questions. The group will be led by a licensed pastoral counselor.

- The focus of this group is to utilize art and creativity as self expression, as therapeutic release of tension and emotion, and as a self-soothing technique. A multitude of media and experiences are used. These experiences provide an opportunity for clients to explore the opposites of valuing the product v. valuing the process.

- Recent brain research has shown that development of the skill of mindfullness improves overall brain function and specifically contributes to the ability to regulate one's emotions. Development of the mindfullness skill is a core Dialectical Behavioral Therapy goal. Therefore, it is integral to the entire program. Mindfullness group looks specifically at this skill and provides opportunity to practice.

- This group is based upon the investigation of archetypes through the study of myths, fairy tales, and parables from around the world. The universal struggles and experiences presented in these stories help the clients to approach their own analogous situations through a less threatening, metaphorical lens. Through personal reflection and discussion with the group, clients discover their own strengths, their own struggles, and develop their own self.

- Through education, discussions and activities, clients are led to explore the evolution of their self image, including their feelings about their bodies and personalities.
